In October 2024 we connected again with Sheffield arts festival, No Bounds for a special joint AV gallery collaborative show with Ashley Holmes and White Teeth down at SADACCA.

Room One, Memory Dance set up in the toilets. A looped radio playback, drenched in haze and smoke and purple glow. A complete rendering of the TOP40 music charts from October 11th 1984. A rewind to poptimism and light, Stevie and Sade. 40 Years on… PLAY THE HITS.

Memory Dance Room Two meanwhile, was an archive activation using exclusive BBC Radio Sheffield collections to reflect on 40 years since the tumultuous coal dispute in South Yorkshire.

From trade union meets, to picket line violence, A Weekend In '84 ran through rare newspaper and radio collections made during October of that year, played back in real-time, in 2024.

Across the weekend we had hundreds pass through the corridors of SADACCA, an historic African Caribbean Community Association, to check out A Weekend In ‘84 and the killer exhibitions by Ashley Holmes and White Teeth.

A flavour sits below.

Archive activations like this one are vital - and hopefully we will revisit at some point in the future…
